Sprenger Brand World

SPRENGER has developed its special know-how about the anatomy of the horse's mouth in cooperation with the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover. Our research center is continuously working on innovative products to further optimise the design and effectiveness of the bits. Thus, in the recent past, not only bit materials specially developed for use in the horse's mouth (Sensogan), but also bit shapes have been developed, which enable uniquely precise reins aids (e.g. KK Ultra or Dynamic RS).

For the development of new stirrups, SPRENGER first contacted the Institute for Research and Development (FES) in Berlin more than 20 years ago in order to gain the most precise knowledge of the forces that actually occur during riding. The jointed stirrups developed by us in cooperation with the inventor Erwin Meroth are still today the epitome of a comfortable and smart riding excperiance.

In close cooperation with Klaus Balkenhol, SPRENGER has developed high-quality spurs that adapt optimally to the riding boot and meet individual requirements with a variety of designs.

SENSOGAN

SENSOGAN – the new bit material developed by SPRENGER – is the result of additional development and consequently the improvement of our original material, Aurigan. We have built on the success and positive features of Aurigan, specifically the taste and salivation aspects to give an even more delicate and sophisticated connection to the horse. It is the distinctive composition of copper, manganese and zinc that makes SENSOGAN so special. With a reduced copper content the oxidation process is still maintained, however, the extraordinary combination with manganese is what makes the difference. This combination results in a smoother and more regulated process of oxidation. Tests show a very positive infl uence on the horse’s satisfaction, motivation and willingness to perform.

The copper discharge quantity into the horse’s saliva is reduced considerably, which helps to keep the noble white-gold colour for a longer time. The new ingredient manganese on the other hand is an important
micronutrient. As a crucial component and activator of enzymes, manganese is highly relevant for building up connective tissue as well as for the muscle and energy metabolism. It can therefore be helpful in preventing muscle tension and in supporting stress reduction. Beyond that, manganese is needed for the reduction of histamine and can prevent allergic skin reactions. Also, the feed industry discovered manganese to be a promising food additive that is gaining in importance in modern feeding of sport horses.

SENSOGAN® not only has improved properties but also a completely new appearance. Compared to Aurigan, SENSOGAN® tarnishes less and is therefore easier to care for. The white-golden shine is retained longer. All SENSOGAN® bits are marked with a black ring on the side parts.

The advantages of Sensogan at a glance:

  •     high compatibility
  •     easy to clean
  •     targeted and dosed stimulation of salivation
  •     toxicologically tested

SPRENGER works continuously with a team of experts in the development and further development of products and materials. The special challenge in the development of SENSOGAN consisted of reinforcing the positive properties of the proven material Aurigan. In cooperation with the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover and the German Riding School in Warendorf, the breakthrough was finally achieved with the unique alloy of SENSOGAN. The results of scientific tests confirm the positive effect of the material.

KK Ultra

KK ULTRA bits are the pioneers of modern bits because they have been developed on the basis of scientific research.

They achieve their unique, precise effect through the special 45° angle of the middle link. When used correctly, the horse’s confidence in the rider’s hand is enhanced, which is why these bits are used successfully worldwide in all disciplines and across all training levels – a true all-round talent!

Compared to conventional bits, the middle link has also been shortened. This anatomical adaptation notice ably optimises the effect compared to conventional double jointed bits.

Scientific research:

The development of the KK ULTRA bits is based on the results of a measurement of mouth cavities of horses initiated by SPRENGER, carried out by the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover. This investigation resulted in groundbreaking knowledge about the space conditions and the position of bits in the horse‘s mouth. In short, the sensitive horse mouth offers little space for a bit. This space has to be used by anatomical adjustments in such a way that a comfortable and effective rein aid is possible for the rider.

Please pay attention to the correct position of the arrow, which must point forward on the left hand.

WH Ultra

A double-jointed bit, angled forward by 45°,  that features a unique roller in the center section. WH ULTRA bits – developed by Sprenger in cooperation with Lisa Wilcox and Ernst Hoyos.

“This unique roller provides a gentle stimulation to the tongue, which encourages the horse to chew, prompting salivation, allowing the acceptance of the bit therefore the relaxation of the jaw. It has been Ernst and my experience that through this gentle stimulation our horses learn more quickly to accept the bit softening their entire top-line enabling us to perform the movements with more relaxation, thoroughness and ultimately more harmony.” Lisa Wilcox

This bit uses the tongue’s sense of touch to achieve optimum effect without being sharp.

WH Ultra Soft

A variation of the approved KK Ultra bits: the center section is provided with a soft but tough rubber cover. Helps to introduce a horse more easily to the bit. The aids given with the reins are carefully directed to the horse's tongue resulting in prompt chewing activities, thus causing relaxed and contented horses. This bit can help to prevent tongue problems and teeth-grinding in an ideal way. WH Ultra Soft Snaffle, Sensogan with rubber covered center section.

Dynamic RS

Dynamic RS bits are shaped in such a way that they lie anatomically correct between tongue and palate and do not exert pressure on sensitive parts of the mouth. They are a further development of the KK ULTRA bits. The middle link or joint is angled forward by 45° and uses the sensitive sense of touch of the tongue.
Thanks to the ergonomic shape, the rein aids reach the horse‘s mouth in a more targeted manner. The pressure generated by the rein aid is distributed over the entire tongue, which acts like a cushion in the mouth. The mouthpiece fits perfectly into the tongue and mouth contours and the effect is precise and effective. When used correctly, Dynamic RS bits provide a confident contact - even with sensitive horses.

The advantages of Dynamic RS bits at a glance:

  • particularly large model variety
  • anatomically adapted and ergonomically shaped mouthpiece
  • optimum 45° angle position of the centre section
  • even pressure distribution, no palatal pressure
  • mouth and tongue friendly

Would you have known?

Conventional single jointed bits have a production related characteristic: one part of the mouthpiece is longer than the other which results in stronger influence on one tongue-edge. To avoid the problem of exerting uneven pressure with a regular single jointed bit, we recommend to use TURNADO or single jointed Dynamic RS bits. The joint of these bits has been angled forward by 45 degrees in order to guarantee an even distribution of pressure on both sides of the tongue. Brilliant for horses that are overactive in the mouth playing too much with the lozenge and therefore unresponsive to the signals of double jointed bits.

novocontact

SPRENGER INTRODUCES ITS LATEST INVENTION IN BIT DESIGN

novocontact bits are designed to create a unique oval shape which widens the contact surface on the tongue while the rider keeps a steady contact. As the rider gives a rein aid the mouthpiece turns forward and the contact surface gets narrower, ensuring more precise and effective communication. novocontact bits improve the interaction between horse and rider for a better contact and acceptance of the bit.

Tests have shown that single jointed novocontact bits are highly recommended for horses that do not take the contact confidently. They also provide added benefit for horses with a sensitive mouth, since the rider is able to give precise but soft aids.

Double jointed novocontact bits are also ideal to use on horses that occasionally tend to pull against the hand, but are too sensitive to be ridden with stronger bits.

novocontact bits are developed on the latest scientific research and are suitable for every type of horse. The bits have been successfully tested and approved by professional and leisure riders and are available in single and double jointed versions.

Turnado

TURNADO bits represent a new generation of loose ring snaffles. Standard single jointed bits have a production related characteristic: one part of the mouthpiece is longer than the other which results in stronger influence on one tongue edge. To avoid this problem, we recommend to use TURNADO bits. The joint of these bits has been angled forward by 45 degrees in order to guarantee an even distribution of pressure on both sides of the tongue.

This special rotation is distinctly marked by a slightly abrasive surface (sandblasting) in the middle part of the mouthpiece.

The advantages of Turnado bits at a glance:

  • innovative design with 45° angle
  • lies perfectly in the horse’s mouth
  • perfect communication between rider and horse
  • helps to prevent tongue vices
  • large variety of products
